Traditionally signifying strength, luck and a "tightly sealed bond" from the inability to easily see how to unravel the knot and the disease resistance of plum trees. Mizuhiki is a type of paper cord which is made by twisting rice paper and then covering traditionally kimono threads but these days it is covered in metallized films, dyestuffs, PVC, material or other finishings.
